SafeLinux
Welcome, we're still trying to get this site up and running so
there's not much here...
Description
SafeLinux is designed as a small and lightweight VPN distribution. Complete
firewalling as well as simple connection management will be included.
Goals
The goal of the project is to be able to distribute a complete Linux system
with all necessary VPN software included.
To provide the necessary software infrastructure for a consulting company to
deploy VPN firewalls that have the inherent capabilites to be remotely managed.
Through the use of an extensible management agent, remote updates and management
will be possible over a secure channel
The following is a shopping list of what we aim to build from a high level:
And from a technical perspective:
- Kernel 2.2.16
- Not dist based, built from scratch
- Simple installer with minimal capabilities
- Extensible management infrastructure
- C2 level security compliance
- VPN: IPSEC, PPTP, L2TP
- Graphical web based configuration
- Possibly exportable
Why?
Many times I have had to implement secure VPN solutions without large amounts of
capital. Small organizations have the need more and more for secure remote connections
to home offices and small remote facilities. The commercial options on the market are
tremendously expensive and difficult to implement. The publicly available Linux
VPN solutions are extremely capable (Free/SWAN), but are difficult to build, install
and configure. This is the mindset in which SafeLinux was born.
Mission
To provide enterprise level VPN solutions to organizations without enterprise level
budgets. To build and distribute a Linux based VPN firewall that is scalable,
reliable and simple to manage.
Status
Right now we have a blueprint for the base system, a working model of the VPN
capabilities and this site.
